BELFAST Despite another round of discussion at the Belfast Zoning Board of Appeals March 12 meeting as to whether the nonprofit Upstream Watch attained standing to contest the city’s permitting of Nordic Aquafarms project permits, the board’s decision remained a firm ‘no.’ But Upstream plans to take its arguments, as it procedurally can do, to Waldo County Superior Court.
“We absolutely are filing an appeal,” said Amy Grant, a cofounder of Upstream Watch, and a staunch opponent of the Norwegian company’s effort to build a $500 million indoor salmon raising and processing facility near the Little River in Belfast. “We plan on doing so around April 1.”
This past year has been one of vast extremes for business owners. Depending on the industry, it seemed that 2020 was either an unexpected boon, or a total disaster for the majority of businesses.

SINGAPORE - Singapore s non-oil domestic exports (Nodx) continued to expand, but at a slower rate in February, on the back of a rise in both electronic and non-electronic shipments, according to data out by Enterprise Singapore (ESG) on Wednesday (March 17).
Nodx rose 4.2 per cent last month compared with the same period last year, moderating from the 12.7 per cent surge in January. It is also lower than the 6.1 per cent growth forecast by analysts in a Bloomberg poll.
Electronic Nodx grew 7.4 per cent year-on-year, following the 13.5 per cent growth in January. This was due to an expansion in personal computers, which had contracted in February last year amid the global electronics downcycle, ESG noted.
San Mateo County moved to the next phase of reopening on Tuesday after reporting reduced COVID-19 case rates for the past two weeks. Improving numbers pave the way for restaurants, gyms and retail to expand indoor operations starting at midnight.
State numbers show the county now reporting 5.6 new cases per 100,000 people, with a 2.8 adjusted case rate. The positivity rate fell to 1.1 percent. The positivity rate in the lowest-income counties sits at 1.9 percent.
Under the orange tier, business operations are expanding across the board. Museums, churches, restaurants and movie theaters can now open to 50 percent capacity indoors, while wineries, breweries and gyms can open to 25 percent capacity indoors. Bars can open outdoors, and indoor retail and malls no longer have capacity limits. Live performances will also be allowed outdoors only, at 33 percent capacity, starting April 1. The changes go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
